What special precautions are there?
Pets may develop transient resistance to an anticoagulant with prothrombin-depressing properties after receiving a significant dosage of Vitamin K1. If you don't see any changes, the condition might not be sensitive to Vitamin K1. Heparin's anticoagulant effects are not counteracted by phytonadione. Prior to treatment, see a veterinarian and carefully follow their advice.

Cats and dogs with hypoprothrombinemia should be given 2.5 mg to 5 mg per kg of body weight daily, as needed, for 3 weeks or less. This equates to 1 tablet for every 11 to 22 pounds, depending on the dosage needed. Dosage and frequency should be based upon prothrombin time testing. The lowest dose should always be administered for a lower risk of side effects.
Orally, provide 2.5 to 5 milligrams per kilogram of body weight (1 tablet for every 11 pounds of body weight for a higher dose, or 1 tablet for every 22 pounds of body weight for a lower dose). Give it to them for no more than weeks.. Prothrombin time should be used to determine the dosage and frequency of dosing. To limit the chance of adverse effects, choose the lowest possible effective dose.
