Anti-seizure medicine zonisamide is a sulfonamide. Zonisamide is an anticonvulsant medicine that acts as an adjuvant for hard-to-control seizure situations or as an initial epilepsy therapy. It is unrelated to any other anti-epileptic drug.

Zonisamide can be used concomitantly with other anti-seizure drugs. It is an effective way to control seizures, requiring administration only once daily. Side effects are rare with this medication compared to alternatives.
How does Zonisamide Capsule work?
While the specific mechanism of action is unknown, Zonisamide is suspected to inhibit nerve cell activity by blocking sodium channels within the brain. This prevents nerve cells from firing inappropriately. It might potentially affect calcium levels in the brain.
